Getting Connected: Relocating Your Phone, Internet and TV Services When You Move House
Home Phone Services
Although mobile phones are much more common than home landlines, some households still use landlines due to internet connections or business operations. If you call your phone service provider and arrange for your services to be relocated to your new address, they should be able to disconnect your old service and reconnect the new service on the same day.
Broadband and Internet Connectivity
These days, connecting the internet is just as important as connecting the gas and electricity. The ability to transfer your existing internet service is a big plus, so call your internet service provider and ask them to check your new address to confirm coverage and service availability. Make sure you double-check if a relocation fee is needed. Some ISPs may also charge a cancellation fee for breaking out of your existing plan at your old address.
National Broadband Network (NBN)
Switching your existing services over to the NBN during a move can take up to a couple of weeks to coordinate, so make sure to organise everything ahead of schedule. Create a checklist of service providers to call and arrange as much as you can in advance. Ask lots of questions and understand everything that’s required of you in terms of equipment and reconnection.
TV Services
It’s important to contact your TV service provider (Foxtel) to check that the TV services you require are available at your new address. If you have pay TV equipment as part of your service, you may need to follow your provider's instructions about whether you can install the services on your own or whether you need to pay for professional installation services. Moving your TV services to a new address may involve a transfer fee, especially if you choose to have a professional set them up. Some service providers may also modify your subscription package if your new address isn’t in a serviceable area. We recommend that you call your TV service provider at least 6 weeks before your move to give you plenty of time to get organised.
